Botox MEDICAL AND COSMETIC

Botox® is a safe and effective preparation used to block nerve impulses to the muscles, preventing the muscles from contracting. Botox® was first used by ophthalmologists in 1986 to treat eye muscle problems and facial spasms, and now, is also used for cosmetic purposes, including reducing wrinkles around the eyes.

Dr. Najafi-Tagol carefully and precisely uses tiny needles to inject the medication into the targeted area(s), providing patients with fully evident results that can last up to six months. It is used for a variety of conditions including:

Blepharospasm – A condition where one or both eyelids spasm in an uncontrollable fashion, which can, in some instances, cause obscuration of vision. Botox® will help eliminate these spasms when administered in tiny dosages. Possible repeat injections may be required every 3 to 6 months.
Hemifacial Spasms – A condition where one half of the face spasms with uncontrollable force. Although other treatment options may be considered, Botox® can sometimes be an effective, less invasive course of treatment. Retreatments are usually required every 3 to 6 months.
Facial Wrinkles – Botox® is frequently used to treat wrinkles adjacent to the eyes and forehead. Treatments can often alleviate wrinkles for up to 3 to 6 months.

After Botox®

Botox® injections can be performed in our office without the use of anesthesia. We will apply a numbing cream or ice as you prefer prior to treatment to help reduce any discomfort. The duration of the procedure will depend on the extent of the treatment, but can last anywhere from a few minutes up to 20 minutes. Patients can usually resume normal daily activities immediately following treatment.
